Dark Chocolate Orange Sea Salt Fondue makes a fun snack for the family, a dessert to end a special meal or a nice addition to a party. Dark chocolate, orange zest and a sprinkle of sea salt creates a decadent chocolate sauce. You can get creative with the dippers using fruit, pretzels, graham crackers, marshmallows and more.
When I told my three year old that he was going to get to recipe test my Dark Chocolate Orange Sea Salt Fondue you can imagine the excitement in his eyes.
He isn’t the only one that was excited in my household. Mike and I fell in love with fondue when we spent a few days in Switzerland on our Europe trip. We spent time in Munich, Tuscany, Rome, Florence and Switzerland. Interlaken, Switzerland was hands down one of my favorite stops on our trip and one of the most beautiful and breathtaking countries I ever laid eyes on.
Switzerland is known for fondue and we were not shy about enjoying as much as possible.
When my friends at Real Seal asked me to create a fondue recipe for “National Something on a Stick Day” I was excited to do a little throw back to our Switzerland trip.
Dark Chocolate Orange Sea Salt Fondue makes a good snack for the whole family. It is fun to sit around and dip things like fruit, pretzels and marshmallows in chocolate, and well lets be honest it is fun to eat it too! The kids will love it.
This recipe uses dark chocolate and heavy whipping cream to create a creamy texture {you can use your favorite chocolate: milk chocolate or semi-sweet work}. When you buy the heavy whipping cream make sure it has the Real Seal on it so you know you are buying milk from cows on U.S. dairy farms.
I have always loved orange slices dipped in chocolate with a sprinkle of sea salt on them so I decided to take that and flip it around into a chocolate sauce. The salt mixes nicely with the sweet fruit and the orange zest. You can feel free to leave the sea salt out if the kiddos don’t like it.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream {make sure it has the Real Seal}
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 teaspoon orange zest {more for garnish}
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Dash of sea salt as a garnish with the orange zest {be careful not to use too much salt}
For the Dippers:
- Cut up fruit: strawberry, kiwi, orange, banana, mango
- Pretzels
- Marshmallows
- Graham crackers
Instructions
- In a medium pan heat the heavy whipping cream over medium heat, whisking continuously to make sure it doesn't burn.
- When the heavy whipping cream begins to bubble add the dark chocolate chips, vanilla extract and orange zest. Whisk until the chocolate is melted. This should not take very long--maybe 2 or 3 minutes.
- Remove from the heat and serve in a small bowl garnished with orange zest and a dash of sea salt with the dippers on the side.

REAL® Seal was started four decades ago and is an assurance that the dairy you are buying is made from milk from cows on U.S. dairy farms, and met strict manufacturing requirements. For a country that consumes so much dairy that is important!
