Description

Mediterranean Burger with Mint Yogurt Sauce is a fun twist on traditional hamburgers using your favorite Mediterranean flavors and ingredients. This burger is served on a pita pocket with a flavorful yogurt sauce. Grilling season never tasted so good!

Ingredients

For the Mediterranean burgers:

  • 1 lb. ground beef {we use 80/20 ground beef}
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts
  • 1/4 cup red pepper, seeds removed, chopped
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 4 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 2 Tablespoons parsley, chopped

For the mint yogurt sauce:

  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped cucumber
  • 2 Tablespoons fresh mint, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill.
  2. In a large mixing bowl combine the beef, pine nuts, red pepper, red onion, egg, olive oil, salt, pepper, cinnamon, cumin and chopped parsley and mix with hands until everything is combined. Shape the ground beef mixture into 2 inch patties {about 1/4 cup of meat per slider which makes 8 sliders} or 4 larger burgers.
  3. Place the sliders on the grill and let cook for 4-5 minutes, flip them over, and cook for 4-5 more minutes or until they reach your desired doneness. We cook ours to medium-rare which is an internal temperature of 130-135 F.
  4. While the sliders are cooking make the mint yogurt sauce: in a medium bowl mix together the yogurt, cucumber and mint. Set aside.
  5. Once the sliders are done grilling place them in a pita pocket with a slice of tomatoes, red onion and lettuce along with a drizzle of mint yogurt sauce.

Notes

Feel free to use more or less spice depending on what you like. You can add cayenne red pepper for a bit of spice.

Try hummus as a spread with these burgers.

You can use regular slider buns or hamburger buns instead of pita bread if you like.
