Remember that saying “You are what you eat.”?
The past 9 months haven’t just been about me, as I have been growing another person! So this quote has been even more important for me when I choose what I put in my body.
I know as we start 2014 a lot of you also are trying to be healthier, choosing foods that fall into certain categories whether that be heart healthy, gluten free, local or organic. What we put in our body matters and gives us the fuel, energy and nutrients we need to lead healthy lives. When I go to my local grocery store, Mariano’s, I am lucky to have a health key™ System that guides me when shopping. The health key™ System are colored tags that are placed under products through the store to indicate whether that product is organic, local, gluten free, low sodium, heart healthy, whole grain, no lactose, vegan, sugar free, ect.
When Mariano’s moved into my area a few years ago I fell in love with the store! If you live in the Chicagoland area you know what I am talking about. The store does a great job of supporting people in choosing healthier foods and leading a healthy lifestyle. As a daughter of a dietician I love that they have a Dietician on staff that can help people with diet planning and recipes. They also offer cooking classes which I have taken full advantage of.
We all know how much I love smoothies! They are a great way to add nutrients, protein, fruit and vegetables to our diet. I especially love them in the morning or as a snack. This Green Tea Fruit Smoothie is the perfect way to start your day and offers you the antioxidants of green tea, the fiber and omega-3 Fatty Acids of chia seeds, calcium from the low fat yogurt and vitamins from the strawberry, banana, blueberries and spinach.
Cheers to a year of healthy eating and lots of smoothie drinking!

I'm giving this drink 5-stars for taste plus it is a great smoothie with anti-oxidant benefits. One thing I do is add half an avocado if I know it’ll be a long day ?
