Welcome to A Cedar Spoon! I am so glad you found me. I am a Mom to three energetic boys who keep me busy. Yes, that means three boys under the age of 5 years old!

A Cedar Spoon was created out of my passion for cooking and sharing simple, nutritious recipes with family and friends.  I also am part Lebanese and grew up eating hummus, pita bread, fattoush and grape leaves.  You will see some of these family recipes from time to time.  I named my blog A Cedar Spoon after the Cedars of Lebanon because I hope to someday travel to Lebanon and see them in person.

Hummus-2

I started this blog four years ago as a way to not only share recipes with people but to challenge myself to try new things in the kitchen and get creative.  Cooking is in my blood.  My fondest memories are of my family gathering in the kitchen over hummus and pita bread, sharing stories and enjoying each others company.  Food has a way of bringing us together.  My Grandma and Mom are two of the best cooks out there in my humble opinion. 🙂  No one can make tabbouleh like my Grandma. My Mom is a nutritionist and has instilled healthy eating in me from a young age.  My goal is to cook nutritious meals for my family, while still enjoying the sweet things in life.  I don’t believe in eliminating the foods you love because of a diet, but eating everything in moderation.

My husband Mike is my main taste tester and is great about giving me honest feedback and hopefully his stamp of approval.  My kids are also “taste testers” but more for the pint sized people.  Many of the recipes I make are family friendly, quick and easy…because lets be honest, with a house full of toddlers running around I don’t have time for complicated!

I hope you find some recipes here that inspire you to get creative in the kitchen.

    Hi,

I am enjoying your cooking blog and recipes. I wish you could include a section for appliance recommendations from Amazon. For example, I love the cute little white bowls for spices to be measured into: https://www.acedarspoon.com/air-fryer-tandoori-chicken-legs/. I would be interested to know if you have recommendations for air fryer and other cooking equipment.

    Thanks!

Your recipes are mouth watering – pictures, too!

Thank you! And thanks for the suggestion. I like your idea and will think about adding a page where it shows what I use when cooking!

    Julia,
Will you give people advice on how to fix or make some recipes that we want to cook? I would like to learn how to do the popular Greek / Lebanese / Meditterian recipes at home. I hope a Mediterrian restaurant that is near us, but I don’t know what kind of ingredients would go into their dressing/s. Maybe, I could show you a picture and you could tell me what you think is in it.

And, I love your website. I think this food was become very popular in America. Once we get through the Pandemic, I think the Greek Restaurants will open back up and start serving people in big crowds like they used to.

Thank you for all you do …

Yes of course! Please send me pictures or describe the dressing and I will help you with what I think. Thanks for the kind words.

Your blog rocks! I love how you promote Lebanese recipes and bring home that true family-based cooking…like the kind we hopefully learned from our grandparents and/or parents. And yes, having a little one can be challenging with the picky-ness in the beginning, but your cooking seems so good! I’m sure he’ll grow into your delicious cooking. Thanks for a great blog.

Oh thanks! 🙂 That is so nice of you. I will have to work on my answer to those questions and do a post on it as well as pass it on. I appreciate it! Julia

Your blog is FANTASTIC! Your grandma, my Aunt Fran, made the most delicious Lebanese meals I’ve ever eaten in my whole life. I am so glad that you are sharing and passing down some of these recipes. Special thanks to your mom for teaching them to you. I shall look forward to reading and sharing your blog with others. I plan on preparing some of the recipes for myself, my kids, and grandkids. Keep up the good work!
