HEALTHY DRINKING HABITS WITH GULULU
Summer is my family’s favorite time of year.
We are an active family and love spending our free time hiking, biking, walking and being outdoors. I work hard to teach my kids healthy habits in all aspects of their life including what they eat, what they drink and how much they are drinking and how active they are. These are the foundations to a healthy, happy child and children can carry these healthy habits into their adulthood.
In the warm summer months staying hydrated is important and necessary. Today I am talking about Healthy Drinking Habits with Gululu and how easy and fun it can be to reward healthy hydration habits. Hiking is one of our favorite things to do now that we live in the Cleveland area. We live next to the Cuyahoga National Park and there are endless trails to be explored.
We recently did a fun and adventurous hike to Blue Hen Falls where we hiked to two separate sets of water falls. The first set of falls was a mild hike up a few hills to a beautiful waterfall. The adventure didn’t stop there! We decided to try and find the second set of falls, which was another hour hike through hills, streams and along unmarked trails. Let me tell you, with 3 kids under 6 years old a hike like that can be pretty tough.
I was really impressed that everyone did such a great job and my 3 1/2 year old Drew even walked the whole thing. In total the hike was 2 1/2 hours to get to both falls and back. Pretty impressive! As you can imagine we got very thirsty on our hike. That is where our new GULULU water bottles came in. Both of my kids have a Gululu interactive water bottle and used them throughout the hike to stay hydrated.
If you haven’t heard of Gululu, you are in for a treat. These fun water bottles encourage kids to stay healthy and build great hydration habits that last a life time. The interactive water bottle does both of these things by measuring and rewarding healthy hydration habits. Gululu makes your kids love drinking water through engaging stories and animated pets. Each day the water bottle tracks how much water your child is drinking and they earn rewards, skills and other things for their pet along the way.
My 5 1/2 year old Will especially loves his water bottle. Will is my competitive child and this is exactly the time of challenge he thrives on. He wakes up in the morning and grabs his water bottle from the charger and starts drinking. When I sync my phone app with their water bottles I am always amazed at how much water they are drinking. I believe it is slowly changing their habits and way of thinking about drinking water. It doesn’t have to be a chore. It can be fun! I am pretty sure Jack will love using one someday too!
You might be thinking, Why would I give my child a pricey water bottle that they might break? That is a great question and one I asked myself as well. After my kids have used these for a month now I can tell you that they use it every day and it is durable and meant to last for years. My kids are not gentle with the things they own, so they are good kid-testers of products!
Technology sometimes scares people too, but don’t worry! Gululu’s game and software receives constant updates, meaning it won’t become obsolete! Also, another wonderful thing about Gululu is that they partner with Generosity.org; and for every bottle purchased, a child in a developing country will be provided with clean drinking water for life. I love this added bonus! Everyone deserves safe, clean drinking water.

I'm for anything that makes people, especially kiddies drink more water! That bottle is so cute. I haven't heard of the brand! I'll have to keep my eye out and buy one for my niece's kids!

This looks like a great way to get kids more interested in drinking. Whilst rewards can backfire if the child is focused on learning how to get the reward, rather than learning that drinking water is good for you, my 3 year old will only do something if there's something in it for him. We make everything into a game, which is tiring, and a bit hard with drinking, so these look like a great idea.

I'm lucky my six-year-old loves to have flavoured water on her at all times! Very important :)
