Indulge in a rich, creamy smoothie without regret. Frozen bananas, Greek yogurt, almond milk and Simply Organic Vanilla Flavoring sweeten cacao naturally without added sugar, while Simply Organic Peppermint Flavor adds a cooling, candy-like touch.
Peppermint Cacao Smoothie
If this Peppermint Cacao Smoothie doesn’t make you thirsty, I don’t know what will!
If you have been following A Cedar Spoon for any length of time you probably know my love for smoothies.
To be honest most of the smoothies I made in the past involved a lot of fruit and maybe some added spinach. When Simply Organic asked me to create a recipe for a smoothie using peppermint flavor and cacao I was intrigued and excited. I like having opportunities to try new ingredients, especially in something that we consume so often in our house.
I have seen a lot of smoothie that use chocolate, ice cream and ingredients that aren’t too healthy for you. Today’s smoothie recipe for Peppermint Cacao Smoothie tastes just as good as those indulgent milkshakes and smoothies but uses healthy ingredients like cacao powder, frozen bananas, Greek yogurt and almond milk along with the refreshing peppermint flavoring.
After one sip of this smoothie my husband, son and I were all hooked! It reminds me of my favorite Girl Scout cookies–thin mints. The peppermint flavoring leaves a refreshing, candy like taste that mixes perfectly with the dark chocolate cacao powder and frozen bananas. It is a treat without all of the guilt of a cookie!
Using frozen bananas in smoothies has quickly become one of my favorite tricks to making a creamy, thick smoothie. I usually freeze a few bananas that are ripe and then use them throughout the month to help thicken up smoothies!
