New Years Eve is fast approaching which means you might need a festive drink to celebrate as we approach 2021.

This is The Best Red Sangria Recipe filled with red wine, champagne, orange juice, fruit and warm spices. I spent some time during college in Barcelona, Spain and fell in love with sangria. It was hands down the best sangria I have ever had.

Today’s red sangria recipe is similar to what I drank in Spain but it has champagne added in for bubbles. If you don’t like champagne or don’t have it one hand you can add seltzer, carbonated water or prosecco in its place.

You also don’t have to add bubbles to the sangria and can just drink it without that added in. I used cabernet sauvignon but you could also use Garnacha {or Grenache}, cabernet sauvignon or Pinor Noir in its place.

This can easily be made the night before to leave all of those juices soak into the fruit and then just add the champagne when you are ready to serve.

See full list of simple ingredients below in recipe card with exact measurements.

  • Red Wine: Red wine is used in this sangria to create a warm, rich flavor. I used cabernet sauvignon but you could also use Garnacha {or Grenache} or Pinor Noir.
  • Champagne: I like to add champagne to this sangria recipe. You could also use prosecco or even just sparkling water or seltzer if you want to skip the champagne.
  • Juice: Orange juice adds a sweet flavor to balance out the red wine. You can skip this if you want but I suggest adding it.
  • Fruit: I think fruit is my favorite part of the sangria because once you are done drinking you can eat the delicious fruit. In this recipe I added lemon, apples and oranges but you could also add things like cranberries, pomegranate seeds, grapes or any citrus.
  • Spices: The spices and herbs in this recipe are warming and the perfect pair for the red wine. This recipe uses rosemary, thyme, cinnamon and star anise but you can use what you have on hand.
