As we approach fall and tailgating season I know a lot of people will be making chicken wings. 

My family loves chicken wings, especially the extra crispy ones.

Today’s Air Fryer Chicken Wings Recipe creates the perfect crispy chicken wing with a tender, juicy inside. 

I am excited to offer you another way to make them aside from these Grilled Mediterranean Chicken Wings and these Sumac Lemon Baked Chicken Wings.

I love making chicken in the air fryer and do it often.

This recipe uses a sweet tangy sauce to finish the wings off in but you can use any sauce you like!

  • FLOUR
  • WHITE PEPPER
  • GARLIC POWDER
  • ONION POWDER
  • HONEY
  • BROWN SUGAR
  • SWEET CHILI SAUCE
  • SOY SAUCE

How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Wings

Step 1: Prepare the Spice Mixture: Pat dry the chicken wings dry with paper towel. Add all purpose flour, white pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and salt to a mixing bowl.

Step 2: Coat Chicken: Place each chicken wing (one by one) into the mixing bowl, making sure that every area is coated with the flour mixture.

Step 3: Air Fry: Preheat the air fryer at 350 degrees F. Dust off any excess flour into the mixing bowl and place each chicken wing into an Air fryer tray with perforated parchment paper. Spray the air fryer with non-stick cooking spray. Space the chicken wings evenly in the air fryer and cook at 400 degrees F for 8 minutes, flip and then cook another 8 minutes. Cook until the chicken reaches 165 degrees F or they turn golden brown and crispy on the outside.

Step 4: Create Sauce: While the chicken wings are air frying, make the sauce. In a skillet add the honey, light brown sugar, sweet chili sauce and soy sauce. Simmer over medium high heat for 1-2 minutes stirring continuously. Take the sauce off the heat after 1-2 minutes, or once it thickens.

Step 5: Toss Chicken Wings: Take the cooked chicken wings out of the air fryer and transfer them to the saucepan. Get a wooden spoon to toss the chicken in the pan and coat them evenly with the sauce. Put the chicken wings back into the Air fryer and fry for 5 more minutes. Serve warm garnished with green onion and sesame seeds.

Recipe Tips

  • I suggest that you try and buy the wings and drumettes already broken into pieces. I find it much easier than having to do it yourself. 
  • One of the most important parts of the process when making wings is to pat them dry. This helps the wings become crispy by removing the excess moisture. 
  • You can bake these chicken wings if you want. Keep in mind that it will take longer to get them crispy. You will want to preheat the oven to 400 degrees and place the wings on a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes, then flip and cook another 15-30 minutes depending on desired crispiness.
  • For extra crispy wings turn up the air fryer at the end by 20-30 degrees. 
  • The best way to know if your wings are done is to take the internal temperature. Using a meat thermometer, insert it into the thickest part of the wing which should register to 165 degrees F.

What Should I Pair with Chicken Wings?

Ingredients 

  • 10 chicken wings
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
