STRAWBERRY KIWI CHIA SEED OAT BRAN BOWL

I have a deep love for bowls. I don’t discriminate and enjoy rice bowls, smoothie bowls, oatmeal bowls and now I have this new obsession with oat bran bowls, like this Strawberry Kiwi Chia Seed Oat Bran Bowl.

There is something so exciting about a bowl that can be customized to your mood and what you are craving.

If you are a creative person it can be a very creative experience to choose the ingredients for your bowl.

For example, this Strawberry Kiwi Chia Seed Oat Bran Bowl is dressed up with bright, beautiful strawberries and kiwi.

It is then topped with chia seeds, seeds and nuts. If you are feeling more savory try adding apples, a drizzle of maple syrup, nuts and granola. My favorite thing about oats, especially oat bran, is that it creates a clean base for your favorite flavors.

If you haven’t eaten oat bran for breakfast you have to try it. It reminds me of oatmeal but with a slightly different texture.

I like to mix in honey, cinnamon and vanilla but you don’t have to.

Not only is oat bran an easy start to your day, you can enjoy it cold or warm. One of my favorite things about oat bran is that it is done cooking in just a minute or two.

You can make up a big batch all at once, then reheat it or eat it cold throughout the week for a quick start to your day (or a quick meal or snack anytime!)

You might be wondering what oat bran is and if it is a good option to start your day and I am here to give you a little insight into those answers.

Hodgson Mill Oat Bran Hot Cereal is a great way to boost your fiber and feel fuller, longer! Plus, its mild flavor and creamy texture can go from sweet to sav ory – so let’s put your best flavor foot forward and make some seriously craveable Oat Bran Bowls.

Bran is a part of all grains – it’s the fibrous outer layer of each kernel that protects the seed from damage.

Generally bran is sifted off and removed when grains are refined into flours like all-purpose, so you lose those nutrients if you only eat foods with refined flours and starches. Look for whole grains throughout your day to boost nutrition with every bite!

You are starting your day with a beautiful looking bowl that isn’t just beautiful but also very good for your body. You can’t beat that.

My kids love oatmeal and I have been mixing up their oatmeal routine with oat bran.

They love it. I will lay out a variety of toppings for them to pick from which is fun for them and gets them involved in their meal choices. They especially love sprinkling the chia seeds on their bowl before eating.

The most important meal of the day is breakfast in my opinion.

It sets the tone for the day and gets your body fueled up and gives you the energy you and your family needs. One of the best things you can do is to start with something that is healthy, filling and will keep you full during your morning activities.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Hodgson Mill Oat Bran Hot Cereal
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 large strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 kiwi, peel removed, sliced
  • 1 Tablespoons Chia Seeds
  • 1/4 cup pecans {or nut of your choice}
  • 2 Tablespoons sunflower seeds

Instructions

Cook the oat bran according to the package. Once the oat bran is done cooking stir in the honey, cinnamon and vanilla. Scoop the oat bran into a bowl.

Top the oat bran with the strawberries, kiwi, chia seeds, pecans and sunflower seeds. Enjoy this warm or you can refrigerate your oat bran in a sealed container until you are ready to eat your bowl. The oat bran tastes great as a cold cereal or a warm oat bowl.

Notes

Feel free to mix up the ingredients in this bowl. I love the strawberry and kiwi combination but you could add other tropical fruit like pineapple and mango.

I used pecans but feel free to use walnuts, almond, cashews or whatever nut you prefer.

Other topping ideas: flax meal, granola, a drizzle of coconut milk, pumpkin seeds, dried fruit.
