Whole Wheat Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Happy Hump Day!

I didn’t play any of those fun debate drinking games, like this one…or this one (seriously, I’d be in the hospital, right?).  But half a bottle of wine later and a lot of yelling at the TV (hey, I am passionate about the issues) here I am the day after. Pretty sure my husband wanted to watch the debate separate from me due to my inability to stay quiet during the debate.  🙂 OOPS. It’s the future of the country & the country that my children and children’s children will live in (oh wait, and that I currently live in) so in my book it’s PRETTY IMPORTANT!

No matter what side of the fence you are on that was one charged up debate.

Now moving on to a completely different subject-COOKIES! You are probably thinking how do you go from a Presidential debate to cookies? Well these Whole Wheat Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies are worth a drastic switch like that.

COOKIES! Well these Whole Wheat Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies are so good.

I love cookies…don’t you?

I just signed up for The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap hosted by Lindsay and Taylor at Love and Olive Oil.  Not only is it helping a great cause, Cookies for Kids Cancer, you also get to eat three packages of cookies from three other food bloggers and then everyone shares their recipes. Who doesn’t love that? And we will all get LOTS of new recipes to try out!  Took me about 2 whole seconds to decide that I am IN!

Sounds so fun and I love helping out where I can (if you aren’t a food blogger check out this cookie swap at Veronicas Cornucopia).

Speaking of cookies– I made a batch of Whole Wheat Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies last week (yes, that is my caribou coffee cup in the back…my weakness!)

I have decided to start using whole wheat flour (in the past I have just used white all purpose flour). Once again, I know this isn’t some new break through but it is new for me!

This blog has been a great excuse to try new things, learn about different cooking techniques and ingredients (I know I shouldn’t need an excuse but when things get busy you need a little push).  Cooking these recipes and writing about them has been therapeutic for me–to take time out of my crazy, busy day (once my baby is in bed of course) and do something I enjoy. Create something in the kitchen to share with my family while learning something new, you really can’t put a price on that.

{I digress} back to these cookies..

I wondered how the whole wheat flour would change the flavor…NOT AT ALL! I thought these Whole Wheat Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies were perfect (I ate more than my fair share but I wasn’t alone).

Just made these cookies and they are really good! Made them just as your recipe describes didn’t use cinnamon. I’d like to try them with butterscotch chips sometime. Thanks! 🙂

Yum! These are great! We had a tonne of smarties from Halloween. So I topped the cookies with them. I also added 3tbsp of flax and subbed coconut oil for the butter. Thanks for the recipe!

I used your recipe yesterday. I doubled it using Blue Bonnet Margine & 1 cup chopped walnuts with dark chocolate chips. This is the best cookies I’ve made in a long time. Thanks for the recipe

Hi! Just made these today and they are awesome! I used crushed m&ms instead of chocolate chips. They taste great, and this is coming from a teenager . Thank you!

I have been looking for a cookie recipe using whole wheat flour. I haven’t tried using only whole wheat flour and usually do 1/2 white and 1/2 whole wheat. I am excited to try this recipe out.

Glad you found me! Let me know how it turns out.

These cookies look & sound fantastic. My boyfriend recently complained that we make too many sweets (is that even possible?!) but I guess from a health standpoint, I have to agree. These seem like the perfect compromise to satisfying my sweet tooth and being a healthier option!

P.S. I completely agree that having a blog is a great motivator to get things done and try new recipes/projects!

    1. A Cedar Spoon says:

YES! If I had sweets at my house all of the time they would be gone in about two days and we would be gaining a lot of weight! 🙂

I am starting to try healthier “sweets” recipes. This was a good start. Let me know if you come across any other good ones. I recently made a pumpkin zucchini bread with whole wheat flour that was delicious too that I will post soon. I can’t wait to check out your kale recipe that I just saw…kale is something I am trying to incorporate into our weekly meals but haven’t done yet.

      1. Leah says:

Let me know how the kale chips turn out for you. I was soooo pleasantly surprised by them and hope to add them into my regular groceries rotation. Can’t wait to read about your pumpkin zucchini bread too! I’m going to be trying spaghetti squash in place of spaghetti soon so I’ll let you know how that goes!
