I am excited to be partnering with the American Dairy Association of the Mideast  to bring you today’s Overnight Triple Berry Oatmeal.

This is the perfect, healthy start to your child’s back-to-school routine. But don’t worry, kids aren’t the only ones who love overnight oats.

When we have a busy week ahead or I know I will need a quick, protein packed snack I love to make overnight oats.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

This recipe makes the perfect nutritious snack and also a nice on-the-go breakfast option. You can modify these with a variety of fruit, dairy options and extra add-ins.

Full of fresh ingredients and super easy to throw together. It’s also:

  • Easy to Customize: You can easily customize overnight oats by switching out the fruit, adding in nuts or seeds, swapping the Greek yogurt with plan yogurt or adding in honey or maple syrup.
  • Great for Meal-prep: Overnight oats are a great way to meal-prep for the week. You can make these on a Sunday and have them waiting in you fridge for the week ahead.

Recipe Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Oats: I use rolled oats for overnight oats but you can also use steel cut oats in place of the rolled oats. For steel cut oats you might need to soak a bit longer.
  • Berries: The berries in these overnight oats are blueberries, raspberries and strawberries but you can use any fruit you like!
  • Milk: You can use any milk you typically drink or use. The milk helps to soak the oats and create the soft texture.
  • Yogurt: Greek yogurt adds protein to these overnight oats but you can use any yogurt you like including a flavored yogurt.
  • Vanilla: The vanilla helps add a bit more flavor to the oats.

How to Make Overnight Oats

Step 1: Layer Berries: In each mason jar put layer of berries {I like to mix them up and use some of each}.

Step 2: Add Remaining Ingredients: Add half the oatmeal, milk, yogurt, vanilla and honey and stir to combine everything. Top your overnight oats with the remaining berries and seal the mason jars.

Step 3: Refrigerate Overnight: Put the mason jars in the fridge overnight. When you are ready to eat them remove them from the fridge and garnish with your favorite toppings. For these Triple Berry Oats I like to add more fresh berries, a sprinkle of chia seeds.

Storage Tips

You can store the overnight oats typically 3–5 days when stored in an airtight container in the fridge.

Commonly Asked Questions

What oats should I use?

I find that rolled oats work best for a creamy texture. You also can use quick oats for an even softer texture, while steel-cut oats will be chewy unless soaked longer.

How long should I soak overnight oats?

I highly suggest at least soaking for at least 4 hours, but ideally overnight (8+ hours) for the best results.

  • 3 tablespoons low or reduced fat Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 large or 2 small mason jars or Tupperware with lids

Garnish ideas:

  • Extra berries
  • Nuts {almonds, walnuts or pecans work great}
  • Shredded coconut
  • Extra honey
  • Chia seeds

Instructions

  • In each mason jar put layer of berries {I like to mix them up and use some of each}.
  • Add half the oatmeal, milk, yogurt, vanilla and honey and stir to combine everything. Top your overnight oats with the remaining berries and seal the mason jars.

Notes

  • You can eat the oats cold or you can heat them up in the microwave for 1 or 2 minutes. Remember this recipe has berries in it so if you heat up the oats the berries will be warm too. Some people don’t like this and prefer to eat their oats and berries cold.
