I am starting to love puff pastry. I don’t know why I haven’t used it more before this year.

You might remember I recently shared a recipe for a Turkey Sausage and Egg Puff Pastry Pizza. I love how versatile puff pastry is. You can use it in a sweet or savory recipe and it’s really easy to use. It creates an elegant appetizer, side, puff pastry dessert or breakfast dish.

I suggest keeping a package in your freezer to help you create last minute crowd favorites. Today’s Puff Pastry Cinnamon Swirls are something you will make time and time again, I promise. This would be a nice recipe for Thanksgiving or Christmas morning, a shower or a brunch.

Five simple ingredients is all you need and you can have these on the table in under 40 minutes.

See full list of simple ingredients below in recipe card with exact measurements.

  • Butter
  • Coconut Sugar or Brown Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Puff Pastry

Can I use Puff Pastry for Cinnamon Rolls?

The answer is yes! And I actually really like using puff pastry in cinnamon rolls. Traditional cinnamon rolls are made with a yeast-based dough but this uses puff pastry. Puff pastry is great for so many appetizers, side dishes that are great when you are entertaining.

The puff pastry works nicely in these cinnamon swirls as an alternative to normal dough. This version makes smaller cinnamon rolls and there isn’t a glaze but you can easily make a quick glaze at home to add at the end if you want.

Puff pastry is buttery, flaky and easy to use.  I like to have a box of puff pastry in my freezer. It is nice to have on hand to use on a whim when I need to make cinnamon rolls or a savory pinwheel recipe like these Cheesy Roasted Red Pepper Pinwheels or a sweet Cranberry Brie Purr Pastry Pinwheel
