Are you a tea drinker? I have always loved to drink tea, and even more now that I am pregnant. It is the perfect pick-me-up and way to add a dash of flavor to your daily routine. I love sitting down with a warm cup of tea in the morning, late afternoon or right before bed to calm myself down.

It really is the perfect drink at ay point in your day, especially if you pair it with a warm pumpkin muffin or a slice of bread.

What I also love is being able to make this drink at home. I control what goes in it and I can adjust it to my tastes. You also can add a shot of espresso and make this a dirty chai latte. I love making this Homemade Chai Tea Latte and sometimes this Instant Pot Chai Tea Latte

Would it be possible to use this recipe as a base for a chai tea concentrate?

    1. Julia says:

I haven’t tried that but here is what I think you could do- just not totally sure!

That recipe already simmers black tea with warming spices which is basically what a concentrate is. To make it more “concentrate-style” for future use or batching I would use less water for a stronger brew.

For a concentrate use 2 or 2.5 cups water with maybe 4 tea bags to intensify the flavor.
      2. Leave out the milk and sweetener (optional).

Concentrates are usually stored without milk so you can mix fresh each time.
Leave out sweeteners if you want more control when serving later.
      3. Strain well and store in the fridge.

Let it cool, strain it, and store in an airtight container (mason jar or bottle) in the refrigerator for up to a week.
To use the concentrate: Mix 1 part concentrate to 1 part milk (or any ratio you like), heat and sweeten to taste—or serve it iced!

Yumm!! I love Chai. This homemade one looks amazing. When I want chai and don’t have a lot of time to make it, I like to use tea concentrates from https://www.tanglewoodbevco.com/

  3. James says:

This looks so yummy! I absolutely love mornings. Just a little chill in the air, chai tea latte in hand, cookie for dunking. Perfection! Would definitely to buy all the ingredients and try out this recipe on weekend! Thanks for sharing.

  4. Row says:

Do you not strain the tea through anything first? How do you avoid ending up with really clumpy bits of spices?

    1. Julia says:

I haven’t but you can! With the spices I use they are ground up and they always blend into the drink. Are you using ground spices?

  5. Cass says:

I feel really stupid but I’m confused. If it’s 1 cup water and then you’re adding 3/4 cup of milk how is that 1 cup of chai latte. Even in the ingredients it says you can use 1 cup water 1 cup milk which is 2 cups plus the 3/4 milk? Please help me understand

    1. Julia says:

I am sorry! My recipes were recently converted to a new format and I have no idea why that said it was 1 chai. It makes between 2 and 3 depending on how much you fill up your cup. I am going to be making this again soon and will also provide ounces if that is helpful.

    1. Julia says:

  7. Linda G says:

Get loose Indian tea and Tea Masala (spices) from the Indian store. Heat up ln in a small saucepan. When it begins to steam, turn it off and add one tablespoon of tea and half a teaspoon of spices. Cover and steep for 3 to 5 minutes. Stain into cup through a tea strainer and add sugar. Wonderful and this is true India chai.

    1. Julia says:

Thanks for sharing how you make it!

  8. Ginger says:

Oh my gosh this was so so yummy! I just made one, and I used gingerbread tea bags because that’s what I had on hand. So delicious!
