You guys have gone crazy for my Homemade Chai Tea Latte over the years so I had to share this Instant Pot Chai Tea Latte. It is a recipe that many of you come back to time and time again. I love a warm cup of chai in the colder months.

Today I am really excited to be sharing an Instant Pot Chai Tea Latte which is similar to my homemade version that is made on the stove but instead is made in an instant pot or pressure cooker.

This is the perfect recipe for someone that is camping in an RV or to make in a dorm room if you don’t have access to a stove. You will love the warm, rich flavors of the chai topped with a homemade cinnamon whipped cream!

What I love most about making my own coffee and tea drinks at home is that I can control the ingredients I put in them. I control how sweet, how rich, how spicy my chai tea latte is.

You have a lot of options when it comes to the type of milk or dairy alternative you use, the sweetener {honey or syrup} and how much of each spice you add. That’s the beauty of making these drinks at home! Oh, and it saves you money which is a bonus.

What is a Chai Tea Latte?

A chai has the flavors of a masala chai, a drink you often find in India. It is made with frothy or steamed milk. To achieve this type of Chai Tea Latte at home you need to first steep the chai tea bag or the black tea bags in hot water.

After you do this you then add will add in the spices of your choice and let that simmer for another 10 minutes followed by adding the milk and the honey or syrup.

The best part of making them is that you control what you drink and how it tastes. You can top yours with a special homemade cinnamon whipped cream for an extra treat!

The best thing to use is whole spices to add flavor and to avoid grit, but if needed, use ground in small amounts and strain well.

Ingredients

  • 3 Black tea bags {or chai tea bags}
  • 2 cups water
  • ½ cup milk {I like 2% but any will do}
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1 star anise
  • Pinch of cardamom
  • 3 tablespoons honey, maple syrup or agave

Instructions

  • Set the instant pot on sautee mode.
  • Heat the water and once it’s hot to the touch, add the tea bags. Steep for 4 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bags.
  • Add the spices and cook for 10 minutes so the spices bloom on saute setting without the lid on. Add the milk and sweetener and stir to combine.
  • Serve into glasses topped with cinnamon whipped cream.

Notes

  • To make the cinnamon whipped cream beat ½ cup heavy cream with 1 Tablespoons confectioners sugar and 1 Teaspoon cinnamon. I like to beat it for 2 minutes until soft peaks form.
  • You can also make this in the stovetop or even the slow cooker (if making it in the slow cooker cook on low for 4 hours).
