Giving Back Through World Vision + A Giveaway

Delfina (red shirt on right) and friends with a mosquito net Delfina’s family received from World Vision.

Tis the season!

Can you believe the holidays are upon us? I know that cooking is in full swing this time of year but so is gift giving and giving back. Today I am excited to share with you an organization I care deeply about and one that can you not only give a gift to someone but also give back at the same time.

You might remember the last two years I partnered with World Vision to share their mission with you. I am back to remind you about the important work they are doing. You can also enter to win one of their beautiful gift baskets {head to the end of the post to enter}.

World Vision is a humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. World Vision serves all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender.

World Vision’s Gift Catalog offers gifts that have a multiplier effect—positively impacting the giver, receiver and those in need. You can join World Vision’s efforts to tackle poverty and injustice around the world, helping children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential. In fiscal year 2017, more than 144,000 people donated more than 301,000 items from the Gift Catalog that helped people around the world raising over $28 million.  Some popular items in the catalog include a goat and two chickens, clothing for children, ducks and medicine.

Since 1996, the World Vision Gift Catalog has given people the opportunity to better the lives of children, adults and communities in the U.S. and around the world through hundreds of gifts in all different areas of need: clean water, food, education, sexual exploitation, job training and others. In fiscal year 2016, more than 112,000 people donated more than 274,000 items from the Gift Catalog helping people around the world. To order from World Vision’s Gift Catalog, visit www.worldvisiongifts.org or call toll-free at 1-855-WV-GIFTS (1-855-984-4387).

I was received a sample box of some of the beautiful items which are included below–and one lucky reader will win this box as well {see below for giveaway}.

Items included within gift basket:

  • Upcycled Artisanal Bowl  – This stunning bowl is up-cycled from reclaimed industrial waste such as wires and metal. Artisans in India have hand bent and soldered each piece into inspirational shapes to create this artistic and elaborate bowl that is great as a decorative piece or to hold special items.
  • Salad Servers and Scoops – These exquisite wooden salad servers are made by a craftsman in Kenya who uses his wood carving skills to support his family, allowing him to send four children to university.
  • Organic Coffee Blend  – This organic blend features a peat flavor with dark chocolate and berry notes. The coffee scoop is hand-carved by artisans in India and doubles as a handy bag clip.
  • Reversible Placemats  – This lovely set of four reversible placemats are handmade by artisans in Bali using only sustainable materials and recycled fabrics.
  • Kenyan Salad Scoops – Each one of these beautiful sets of two hand-carved olivewood serving scoops is uniquely made by hard-working artisans in Kenya who are raising themselves out of poverty thanks to Fair Trade wages.

Giving back during the holiday season is an important part of our holiday traditions. We try to give gifts that do good, such as donations in the recipients name or from organizations that make donations for the gifts purchased. We also pay to have trees planted to offset our Christmas tree. And I create a advent calendar with 24 days of good deeds!
