PARMESAN CRUSTED TILAPIA
We eat seafood at least once a week in our house.
I try to find new recipes to keep things interesting.
Some of our favorites are today’s Parmesan Crusted Tilapia, Easy Blackened Fish, Baked Cod with Lemon, Black Sea Bass, Air Fryer Cod and Pan Fried Garlic Butter Cod.
Today’s recipe uses simple ingredients to bread tilapia along with Parmesan cheese to create that delicious crust we all love.
The tilapia is pan-seared the fish in a skillet which takes about a total of 7-10 minutes.
You can’t get much easier than that!
WHAT INGREDIENTS ARE IN THIS PARMESAN CRUSTED TILAPIA?
- Tilapia filets
- Parmesan cheese
- Flour
- Bread crumbs
- Fresh parsley
- Fresh rosemary
- Garlic
- Egg
- Olive oil
HOW DO YOU MAKE PARMESAN TILAPIA?
Pat tilapia dry with a paper towel, then set up a station for dredging the fish.
In a large bowl, mix parmesan, flour, bread crumbs, chopped parsley, rosemary, salt, pepper, and minced garlic.
In a separate bowl, whisk the egg.
Use tongs to dip the tilapia in the whisked egg. Be sure to coat the fish.
Then, dip the fish in the parmesan bowl.
Flip to evenly cover each side. Pat down the cheese over the fish to help it adhere.
Heat ¼ cup olive oil over medium high heat. * Tip: Oil that is not hot enough will cause the fish to absorb the oil and will make it too greasy. Check the temperature to be sure it is hot enough by dipping the end of a wooden spoon into the oil. If it slightly bubbles it is perfect, if it bubbles too much turn down the heat and try again.
Once the oil has reached temp, add the tilapia filets.
Cook 3 minutes per side.
Place on a paper towel lined plate to allow the excess oil to drip off.
Garnish with fresh parsley or dill and serve immediately and enjoy!
HOW DO I REHEAT FISH?
I like to eat my fish fresh when I cook it but sometimes that isn’t an option or you have leftovers.
When it comes to reheating fish you want to make sure you do it the right way so you don’t dry it out. Cook’s Illustrated has a nice tutorial on how to reheat fish.
Place the fillets on a wire rack set in a rimmed baking sheet, cover them with foil (to prevent the exteriors of the fish from drying out), and heat them in a 275-degree oven until they register 125 to 130 degrees, about 15 minutes for 1-inch-thick fillets (timing varies according to fillet size).
WHAT SHOULD I SERVE WITH THIS PARMESAN TILAPIA RECIPE?
I love pairing a salad with seafood. Some of my favorites are this Lemon Arugula Salad with Pine Nuts,Fattoush Salad and Kale Salad.
Vegetable side dishes are also a nice pairing with this tilapia. Some I make a lot are this Garlic Green Beans, Parmesan Roasted Broccoli or these Za’atar Roasted Carrots.
I also enjoy serving potatoes with this meal. I especially love these Spicy Lebanese Potatoes, Gouda Smashed Potatoes or Air Fryer Twice Baked Potatoes.
