This Easy Guacamole Recipe is a quick and easy way to make guacamole. I like to use this guacamole recipe as a base for other additions like mango, pineapple or extra spice!
Give me guacamole any day of the week, especially to celebrate Cinco de Mayo today! I just love it so much.
Today I am sharing a simple and easy guacamole recipe. This works great on its own with chips, on tacos, in salads or added to rice bowls.
It is homemade so you know it is going to be good and you can control the ingredients you put in it. You can go as basic as just using avocado, cilantro and lime juice or add extra spice, fruit or cheese.
The sky is the limit with guacamole!
We eat it stuffed in these Guacamole Stuffed Potato Skins, we put pineapple in it with this Pineapple Mango Guacamole and spread it on this Tropical Avocado Toast or an Easy Avocado Burger.
Recipe Ingredients You’ll Need
- Avocados: Try to find ripe avocados to make the guacamole. This recipe uses 3 large avocados. You can easily double this recipe to feed a crowd.
- Red Onion: Make sure to finely mince the red onion. You also can use sweet onion or shallot.
- Lime Juice: The lime juice helps sweeten and give flavor to the guacamole.
- Cilantro: Freshly chopped cilantro is my favorite addition to guacamole.
- Jalapeno: The diced jalapeño adds a hint of spice to the guacamole.
- Tomato: Finely diced tomato is another addition to guacamole that I like! You can use any tomatoes you have on hand.

- Creamy: Do you want an extra creamy guacamole? Try adding sour cream or a dollop of Greek yogurt and stir it in.
- Fresh Veggies: There are a variety of vegetables that work nicely with guacamole. Try poblano peppers, bell peppers, roasted red peppers or radish.
- Fruit: Fruit is one of my favorite ingredients to add to guac. I especially love pineapple, mango or pomegranate seeds.

Recipe FAQ
If you buy an avocado that is very hard and bright green they will need some time to ripen. Usually it takes 4 to 7 days on the counter for them to ripen.
When you need avocados but they aren’t ripe yet you can speed up the ripening process. To ripen it quickly you can place it in a paper bag or a bowl with a banana or an apple. They produce ethene gas so when they are placed next to avocados they soften them.
Take the guacamole and flatten it down into a dish. Pour a thin layer or lime or lemon juice to the top of the guacamole. This ensures the air doesn’t get into the guacamole. Cover the dish with plastic wrap making sure to push the wrap down to the guacamole and push down to make sure there are no air bubbles. You can also put it in an air tight container instead. Refrigerate until you are ready to eat.
Once you are ready to eat remove the liquid from the guacamole and stir. Taste and adjust the seasoning.
