This Easy Guacamole Recipe is a quick and easy way to make guacamole. I like to use this guacamole recipe as a base for other additions like mango, pineapple or extra spice! This works nicely on rice bowls, tacos, salads or other Mexican dishes.
EASY GUACAMOLE RECIPE
Give me guacamole any day of the week, especially to celebrate Cinco de Mayo today!
I just love it so much.
We eat it stuffed in these Guacamole Stuffed Potato Skins, we put pineapple in it with this Pineapple Mango Guacamole and spread it on this Tropical Avocado Toast or an Easy Avocado Burger.
Today I am sharing the best guacamole recipe that is also an easy guacamole recipe.
It is homemade so you know it is going to be good and you can control the ingredients you put in it.
You can go as basic as just using avocado, cilantro and lime juice or add extra spice, fruit or cheese.
The sky is the limit with guacamole!
WHAT INGREDIENTS ARE IN GUACAMOLE?
Guacamole can be made with simple ingredients. They are healthy and fresh!
- AVOCADOS
- RED ONION
- LIME JUICE
- CILANRO
- JALAPEÑO OR CHILI SERRANO
- TOMATO
- SALT & PEPPER
HOW TO RIPEN AN AVOCADO?
We all want that perfect avocado. The worse thing is when you cut one open and it isn’t ripe or it is too ripe.
For guacamole you want a soft, ripe avocado.
When you want to use the avocado right away then look for avocados that are dark green, almost black avocados that are firm with a slight give when you squeeze them.
If you buy an avocado that is very hard and bright green they will need some time to ripen. Usually it takes 4 to 7 days on the counter for them to ripen.
When you need avocados but they aren’t ripe yet you can speed up the ripening process.
To ripen it quickly you can place it in a paper bag or a bowl with a banana or an apple. They produce ethene gas so when they are placed next to avocados they soften them.
HOW DO YOU STORE GUACAMOLE?
I never have leftover guacamole because I can eat a whole batch or more!
I just love it that much. If you end up with extras you want to make sure it doesn’t turn brown. To ensure this you will want do the following:
-
Take the guacamole and flatten it down into a dish.
-
Pour a thin layer or lime or lemon juice to the top of the guacamole. This ensures the air doesn’t get into the guacamole.
-
Cover the dish with plastic wrap making sure to push the wrap down to the guacamole and push down to make sure there are no air bubbles. You can also put it in an air tight container instead.
-
Refrigerate until you are ready to eat.
-
Once you are ready to eat remove the liquid from the guacamole and stir. Taste and adjust the seasoning.
HOW DO YOU MAKE THIS GUACAMOLE RECIPE?
In a Molcajete or a medium bowl place the ripe avocados and begin to mash.
If you are using a bowl you can use a potato masher or the back of a spoon to mash the avocados.
Add the tomatoes, red onion and cilantro.
Mix until combined, but do not over mix.
Add the serrano peppers or jalapeño in little by little to tase to make sure it does not get too spicy.
Add the kosher salt and black pepper and take a taste for seasoning.
Squeeze the lime into the mixture for extra flavor, and to keep it from turning brown.
Serve immediately with tortilla chips and store leftovers in the fridge.
WAYS TO MODIFY GUACAMOLE WITH FRESH INGREDIENTS
ONIONS: I used red onion in this recipe but you can use white onion or green onions. I suggest finely chopping or mincing them.
CREAMY: Do you want an extra creamy guacamole? Try adding sour cream or a dollop of Greek yogurt and stir it in.
FRESH VEGGIES: There are a variety of vegetables that work nicely with guacamole. Try poblano peppers, bell peppers, roasted red peppers or radish.
FRUIT: Fruit is one of my favorite ingredients to add to guac. I especially love pineapple, mango or pomegranate seeds.
CHEESE: Cheese can be a nice addition to guacamole. I especially love goat cheese, cotija cheese or pepper jack cheese.
SPICE: If you like heat you can add a variety of ingredients to spice it up. Try hot sauce, cayenne red pepper, crushed red pepper or habanero.
WHAT TO USE GUACAMOLE FOR?
SALADS: I love adding guacamole to salads like this Mexican Street Corn Salad, Cowboy Caviar Recipe or Mexican Chopped Salad.
ENCHILADAS: Enchiladas are a great match for guac. It is a nice way to add a creamy texture. Try these Vegetarian Enchiladas, Chicken Enchiladas or this Beef Enchilada Casserole.
TACOS: Tacos and guacamole are a match made in heaven. Add it to Chicken Tinga Recipe, Easy Cod Fish Tacos or Beef Tacos.
BREAKFAST DISHES: Eggs are another great pairing for guacamole. Some favorites are Chilaquiles Rojos Recipe, Egg Sausage Casserole or these Southwest Breakfast Egg Tacos.
